A Stranger Place is designed to be easy to pick up but challenging to master. Players can choose from four levels of difficulty: easy, normal, hard, and very hard. Each level introduces unique enemies, puzzle dynamics, and rules tailored to the player’s preferences.
In this game, the objective is to navigate through interconnected linear levels while balancing elements of adventure and puzzles. Unlike many horror games that overly focus on jump scares, A Stranger Place skillfully blends thrill with creative problem-solving.
Players must solve intricate puzzles using subtle hints while also avoiding quick encounters with dwarven monsters. A moment of inattention can lead to being captured and sent back to the start of the first level.
As the game begins, you are thrust into a disoriented state resembling a bewildered spirit. The events unfold as you instinctively follow prompts to locate a key that liberates you from your surroundings.
Your journey starts in an old warehouse where you find a cane for self-defense. As you proceed, you encounter a quirky one-eyed dwarf who quickly knocks you out and ensnares you in a cage. Upon realizing that there is a way to escape through damaged bars, you manage to slip out and continue your adventure.
You soon learn that evading a large grotesque figure is paramount for survival, as any confrontation will return you to your cell. To escape this treacherous place, you must gather essential items such as a wrench, knife, instructions for operating cockpits, an explosive device, and a mysterious code to unlock boxes.
Various significant events throughout the game allow access to hidden rooms containing clues. Solving these leads to discovering the secrets held within an iron cage hallway. Entering the correct code into an elevator transports players to another realm, culminating in a haunting encounter with the police siren's wail, hinting at the grim reality awaiting them.
Developed by indie studio Honni Games, A Stranger Place marks their debut in the puzzle horror genre. Despite its recent launch, the game has rapidly garnered over 100,000 downloads and boasts a 4.3/5 rating based on user reviews on Google Play—a commendable feat for such a young developer.
