Call Break offers a variety of gameplay options with differences in the number of rounds played, scoring systems, and specific bidding and gaming rules. Some popular variations include incorporating wild cards and altering the rules associated with trump suits.

Game Format and Rules

Deal & Bid

Each game consists of five rounds or deals at public tables, where any player worldwide can join.

The dealer is chosen randomly for the first deal, and then the responsibility rotates clockwise.

After distributing all 52 cards among four players, each player must bid by stating how many tricks they believe they can win in that round.

Gameplay

Following the bids, gameplay begins with the player next to the dealer making the first move. Any card from a suit other than Spades may be played (Spades serve as the trump suit).

The player leading the round determines the led suit, which players must follow:

They must play a higher-ranked card of the same suit if available.

If unable to follow with a higher card, players must play any card from the led suit.

If a player does not hold any cards of the led suit, they may break it by playing a Spade (any rank). If they don’t have a Spade or choose not to break, they may play any card.

The highest card of the led suit wins the trick; however, if the led suit has been broken using Spades, the highest-ranked Spade wins instead.

The winner of each hand leads the subsequent hand. This continues until all 13 hands are played, at which point the next deal begins.

Result Calculation

After each round, points are tallied. Once all five rounds are completed, the player with the highest cumulative score is declared the winner.

Example of Points Calculation:

Round 1:

Player A Bid: 2 hands, Made: 2, Earned: 2 points

Player B Bid: 3 hands, Made: 4, Earned: 3.1 points (3 for the bid + 0.1 for the extra hand)

Player C Bid: 4 hands, Made: 5, Earned: 4.1 points (4 for the bid + 0.1 for the extra hand)

Player D Bid: 4 hands, Made: 2, Earned: -4 points (failure to achieve the bid results in negative points)

The point calculation process continues in every round until determining the final winner based on total points.

Following the bidding phase, players take turns playing one card in a clockwise manner:

Players must adhere to the suit if they can; otherwise, they may play any card.

The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, and the victor leads the subsequent trick.
